Machakos deputy governor has called on the Interior Ministry to prioritize mental health to support police officers.

Speaking during 2023 joint prayer and thanksgiving service for lower Eastern uniformed displined service officers at Machakos Cathedral, Francis Mwangangi said that Interior Ministry should include guidance and counselling of police officers in their curriculum.

“The nature of police officers work needs guidance and counselling. I wish the Interior Ministry could change their curriculum and include mental health of our officers.” He said.

Mwangangi also encouraged police officers to form groups that they will be discussing issues that affect themselves.

“I understand that you have Saccos. When you go back to your work stations ensure you form social interaction groups that you would discuss issues amongst yourselves.” He said.

The event was also graced by Machakos County Commissioner.
