County Inspectorate Officers have been urged to be humane and treat people with decorum as they go about their duties of enforcing law and order.
Speaking at the unveiling of a new uniform for Inspectorate Officers, Machakos County governor Wavinya Ndeti said it was possible for the officers to enforce the law without resorting to use of force and violence.
Governor Ndeti said the new blue uniform was not only about rebranding but should also signal a change of attitude of the officers.
“As we continue to equip our officers with necessary skills and tools to perform their functions,I ask them to be humane in the enforcement of law and order especially when dealing with vulnerable groups of people who are also our electorate,”said governor Ndeti.
The governor who spoke outside her office after inspecting a guard of honour mounted by the Inspectorate team said the new uniform will weed out imposters who have been misusing the old grey uniform after being discharged from service.
She commended the Chief Officer Inspectorate Department Col.(Rtd) Gideon Mbithi for ensuring the design of the new uniform within a short period after the department was allocated funds during a supplementary budget.
Governor Ndeti assured the officers that they will be trained to upgrade their skills and attitude in addition to having their welfare improved.
The governor tasked them to work as a team to ensure revenue collection targets are met in order to deliver services to the people and
prosper the county.
Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi who was also at the function advised the officers to uphold integrity as they were the face of the county government while dealing with Wananchi.
“You are the county government in action.I ask you to do the right thing and treat our people nicely.Integrity and leadership is important as you perform your duties,”said Mr Mwangangi.
County Secretary Dr Muya Ndambuki hailed the new-look inspectorate team as a significant step towards transforming service delivery adding the first impression about the county is created by the Inspectorate officers who are usually the first point of contact with visitors to the county.
