Keep off County affairs, Wavinya tells MPs

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has hit out at a section of Members of the National Assembly whom she claims are out to destabilize her government through underhand political machinations.

Speaking at Machakos level 5 hospital where she made an impromptu tour donning a ‘buibui’ and facemask to remain incognito, Wavinya dismissed reports circulating in various media outlets alleging health services in Machakos had collapsed.

“I decided to sneak into this facility hiding my identity in order to gather first-hand information about healthcare service delivery and I can authoritatively confirm that everything is running smoothly. I challenge anyone with contrary findings to come forward and prove otherwise,” Wavinya told a battery of journalists that stormed the facility after establishing her secret mission.

She turned guns on some local MPs whom she accused of bankrolling a political smear campaign of her Government’s programs. “If you are an MP, focus on oversighting President William Ruto because that is your constitutional obligation. The function of oversight in counties is reserved for MCAs and senators,” a visibly charged Wavinya declared.

The governor appeared to be directing her accusations to MPs Vincent Musyoka (Mwala), Patrick Makau (Mavoko) and Caleb Mule (Machakos Town) who have been fiercely criticizing her government operations.

But the governor said she will not succumb to desperate attempts by her opponents to scuttle her government. “People can do politics with any other sector but they must not drag health care matters into these dirty politics. It is grossly immoral and evil to make people’s health a subject of political games,” she said.

The Governor wondered why legislators drawn from the National Assembly had become obsessed with the activities of the county government while other critical functions under their dockets had stalled.

She toured the maternity wing, new born unit, male and female wards, mortuary, casualty, cancer care center as well as pharmacy.

And speaking in public for the first time since Kalama Ward MCA, Boniface Maeke was involved in a physical scuffle with county inspectorate officers, the governor maintained her administration does not entertain violence while executing its mandate.

“I am on record urging county inspectorate staff to treat the public in a humane manner. However, if you respond to them in a violent manner, they are human and may just respond in a similar manner,” Wavinya said.
