Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has vowed to complete all unfinished projects initiated by former governor Alfred Mutua even as she rolls out new development projects in order to ensure value for money already spent on the projects.
Speaking during a church service at A.I.C Vota in Machakos, she said taxpayers funds will go to waste if the projects initiated by her predecessor remain unfinished.
She faulted those who had politicized a recent Auditor General’s report on a 12-storey building near the People’s Park clarifying that the audit query on the said building was on lack of completion and not alleged misuse of funds.
“There’s a building at the People’s Park by Governor Mutua which had stalled and I have a responsibility to complete the construction of the building.” She said.
Governor Wavinya pointed out that the building had already cost Sh250 Million by the time the new administration took office and it would attract legal suits by the contractor if the current government did not allocate funds towards its completion.
She said it is her Government which had supplied the Auditor General with information on the status of various projects in the County adding that, “My Government had also provided information on ‘ghost workers’ who had been receiving payment from the County Government without working and the trend had since been stopped.”
Governor Wavinya also called on residents to take advantage of the ongoing rains to engage in farming and plant trees in order to combat climate change and restore the environment.
She cautioned motorists to be careful on the road in order to stem road carnage which was on the rise during this rainy season.
