The highly anticipated Safari Sevens rugby tournament is set to return this year at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos County from October 11th to 13th 2024.
The 26th edition promises to elevate the experience for fans, players, and the rugby fraternity by breaking away from the traditional Nairobi setting.
Machakos County government will be hosting the event for the first time and the Kenya Rugby Union have confirmed that preparations are complete and all is set for the International tournament that will play a big role in showcasing the best of what the Country has to offer in terms of sports tourism destinations.
Machakos County governor Wavinya Ndeti extended a warm invitation to rugby enthusiasts, participants and visitors from across Kenya and around the world.
She expressed the county’s excitement and commitment to delivering a memorable experience for all.
“We are truly honored to host the Safari Sevens Rugby Tournament in Machakos County. This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our hospitality, rich culture, and passion for sports. We are ready to welcome visitors from near and far and look forward to creating an electrifying atmosphere.” Said governor Ndeti.
The governor also called on rugby fans to come out in large numbers and bring their energy to the event.
“We urge fans to cheer passionately and add life to the tournament. Let’s make this a celebration of rugby, unity, and festivity.” She added.
Governor Wavinya assured the public that Machakos County is fully prepared to host the event, with comprehensive security measures and top-tier hospitality services in place to guarantee the comfort and safety of all attendees.
Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Vice Chairman Moses Ndale said that all roads will lead to Machakos for Safari 7s highlighting the event’s significance in the rugby calendar and the decision to spread the game to rural areas.

“We decided to bring this biggest event in our Rugby calendar to Machakos as part of our effort of spreading the game to Mashinani. The beauty is that there are big clubs in Machakos and top teams from the entire country and across the world will be here to play.” Said Ndale.
