Schools with less than 30 candidates prone to exam challenges

Learners have prepared extensively for the exams, with today’s rehearsals focusing on KNEC examination rules and regulations.

At St. Joseph Katethya High School in Machakos, students are putting on the final touches.

A total of 21 candidates at the school are expected to sit for KCSE this year.

According to the school principal Salome Mutua, hosting exams in different centres poses a significant challenge for learners from schools with fewer than 30 candidates.

For instance, learners at the school will have to sit for their exams at Kathekakai Secondary, which is 5km away, the nearest exam centre in the area.

Salome expressed that this disrupts the learners’ preparedness.

The Ministry of Education, after Covid 19, directed that schools with fewer than 30 learners must transfer their students to other exam centers.
