It was pomp and colour as 84 highly qualified students were awarded diplomas and certificates at the 1st graduation ceremony of Machakos Hospitality and Technical Institute (MHTI).
The institution started off with 16 students which has been followed by a colossal increment of over 250 students.
Speaking during the glamorous event, Chairman of the institution Alphonce Kioko underscored the pivotal role of technical and hospitality education in empowering students with practical skills essential for both local and international success.

“MHTI is more than a learning center; it is a gateway to boundless opportunities.” He said while emphasizing the institution’s commitment to nurturing well-equipped graduates poised for excellence.
A standout feature of MHTI is its fusion of academic rigor with hands-on experience, facilitated by partnerships with Gelian Hotels and Semara Hotel in Machakos Town.
“We have practicals for our students from the two hotels. We also expose them to other hotels.” He said adding that, “When we see gaps in the training of our students they are brought back to the institution so that those gaps can be bridged.”
Kioko said that skills were important in the job market and they were looking forward to creating a huge impact in hospitality.
“Hospitality is in high demand in the world. You do not need a white colour job when you have skills in hospitality since you can employ yourself and maybe create job opportunities for others through opening your own hotels.” He said.

He said MHTI had qualified and exposed directors internationally.
