A Universal Traders Sacco member has deposited a damning report with the anti-corruption agency, booking its directors and management for a date with the investigators over the loss of millions in a web of fraudulent schemes.
The document, addressed to the EACC Chairman shows how UTS management and officials devised fraudulent schemes through which millions of shillings were either illegally drawn or lost.
“At UTS, most of the account holders are not aware if their accounts have been debited. They normally don’t take any corrective measures until they apply for loan facilities, only to discover that their accounts have been interfered with.” Read part of the report.
The report says that there was massive corruption and unethical conduct within the sacco which has resulted in loss of millions in members’ savings.
“The lapses at Machakos town and Embu town branches include failure to adhere to loan approval processes, members of the credit committee approving loans beyond their recommended limits as per the policy and loans being approved without requisite documentation.” Read part of the report.
The complainant also called for a lifestyle audit of the UTS CEO Dominic Mutunga and his Chairman Fredrick Ngumbi.
“The CEO and the chairman’s extravagant lifestyle exceed their known income.” The report read in part.
