Machakos County emerged top in the County Budget Review category in the Kenya’s County Budget Transparency Survey 2024 released on Friday.
The County scored 100 per cent having published the requisite financial documents in a comprehensive and timely manner in the survey conducted by the Bajeti Hub organization.
Machakos tied with Wajir and Nakuru County in first position on the County Budget Review category.
Overally, West Pokot, Makueni and Busia Counties emerged position one to three as the most transparent counties with 84, 83 and 81 marks respectively.
Speaking during the launch of the report at Serena Hotel in Nairobi, Busia County Governor Dr. Paul Otuoma congratulated the Counties that won in various categories saying that for devolution to work, all Counties must function as required.
“Counties needed more funding and that resources should follow functions as per the constitution. Delay in disbursement of funds from the National Government to Counties is one of the reasons hampering proper implementation of budgets and accountability.” Dr. Otuoma said.
Finance Executive Onesmus Kuyu represented Machakos County at the function.
