Devolve funds to counties to address plight of the youth – Governor Wavinya urges National government

Machakos governor has called for devolving of more funds to county governments to allow them to address youth employment.

Speaking during a church service at A.I.C Misakwani in Machakos, Wavinya Ndeti said that County governments are closer to the needs of their communities and can tailor programs to specific local challenges and opportunities.

“Devolving more funds could foster economic empowerment and provide opportunities for young people within their respective counties. Here in Machakos we have Machakos youth empowerment like the National Youth Service (NYS). The first cohort has already completed training and they will be equipped with equipment to start business.” Governor Wavinya said.

She also called on a collaborative plan by both the National and County governments to create a more effective and responsive approach to addressing youth unemployment.

“As a Country we need to go back to the drawing board. We do not want to see our young people die. So many mothers are hurting. As leaders we need to come together and come up with a solution to make sure that we take care of our young people.” She said.

Her deputy Francis Mwangangi said that the National government has a right and responsibility to protect the lives and property of its citizens.

“Our President, call for a dialogue. You have the solution of our problems.” He said.
