Striking Machakos medical laboratories officers to miss pay

Machakos County striking medical laboratories officers who will not resume work will not receive their salaries.

The announcement was made by Machakos County Secretary and Head of Public Service Dr. Muya Ndambuki who accused Kenya National Union of Medical Laboratories Officers (NUMLO) of acting in bad faith.

“We wish to put the record straight, as follows. We have held a series of meetings with the union in utmost good faith. We have conversed the issues they put forward in good faith and we agreed on most of the issues. 90 per cent of the issues.” He said.

He insisted that the County government had already addressed most of the officers’ grievances saying that the only issue in contention remained the issue of promotions.

“I wish to say that, up to this point, close to 60-70 per cent of the promotions that have taken place to date, have been in the health sector. This government is made up of 10 sectors. 70 per cent of promotions have benefited only one sector. We feel very let down by a sector that has probably benefited most in terms of promotions during this regime.” Dr. Muya said.

He added that, “I wish to state again that it was not that we did not put an offer. Indeed, the offer we gave to the officers was one of the best offers we have ever given and was even far beyond what they had expected but they nevertheless chose to go the hard line way.”

Dr. Muya, flanked by Health Executive Justus Kasivu and Devolution Executive Joel Nzomo instructed Chief Officer of Public Service to expunge the names of the officers who do not report to work from this month’s payroll and the subsequent months.
