Machakos County Governor Wavinya Ndeti has launched the Machakos County Persons with Disabilities Board as she distributed essential assistive devices to PWDs across the County.
Speaking at the event, Governor Wavinya said that the new board was tasked with advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities and ensuring they receive necessary support.
“We believe that every person, regardless of their physical capabilities, has the right to engage fully in their communities. This board will serve as a crucial link between the government and persons with disabilities, focusing on their needs and empowering them to lead fulfilling lives.” She said.
Governor Wavinya highlighted the importance of providing necessary tools to support the mobility and independence of individuals with disabilities while she distributed an impressive array of assistive devices, including 74 wheelchairs—customized for children with cerebral palsy—50 white canes, 50 crutches, 36 walking frames, and 50 walking canes.
She said that the bursary allocations for PWD students have seen a remarkable increase over the past three years, demonstrating a clear commitment to educational equity.
