Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has paid tribute to the late Raila Odinga, Kenya’s former Prime Minister, emphasizing his lasting impact on the nation.
Speaking at her office in Machakos Town, Wavinya expressed deep sorrow over the passing of a leader who dedicated his life to the love of his country and its people.
Wavinya recounted her encounter with Odinga during a parliamentary session in 2008, as he stood among some of the most influential figures in Kenyan politics.
“I remember in 2008 going to Parliament and meeting with heavyweights, amongst them was Raila. He has left us while loving his country,” she said.
According to Governor Wavinya, Odinga’s legacy is exemplified by his relentless advocacy for the Kenyan Constitution and the principle of devolution.
“Raila fought for the constitution of Kenya and devolution,” she said while urging contemporary leaders to emulate Raila’s unwavering commitment to uplift the lives of citizens and foster inclusive governance.
The governor also reflected on the strong ties between the Kamba community and Raila Odinga.
She emphasized how the Kamba people had remained steadfast in their support for Raila due to the belief they had in his leadership and vision.
“The Kamba community supported Raila Odinga because they believed in him. He had deep-rooted relationships with various ethnic communities,” Wavinya said.
Wavinya issued a clarion call to current and future leaders to uphold and continue Raila Odinga’s legacy.
“It is crucial for Kenyans to remember the values that Odinga stood for and to ensure that his vision for a united and thriving nation does not fade away,” she stated emphatically.
Earlier in the day, Wavinya had visited Raila Odinga’s wife, Mama Ida Odinga at their home in Karen, Nairobi.
