Robert Burale’s defamation suit suffers blow as ex-wife’s controversial interview upheld

Pastor Robert Burale has suffered a blow in his Ksh20 million defamation suit after a Nairobi court declined to order the deletion of a controversial interview featuring his ex-wife, Rozina Mwakideu.

The interview, titled ‘My Biggest Mistake Was Marrying Robert Burale,’ was published on Rozina’s brother Alex Mwakideu’s YouTube channel on October 4 and has since garnered over 815,000 views.

While Milimani Commercial Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzyoki denied Burale’s request to have the highly viewed video pulled down, he did issue interim orders on Tuesday that partially favor the Pastor.

The court barred both Rozina and Alex Mwakideu from publishing or sharing the controversial interview further.

Magistrate Nzyoki clarified that the court’s order only prevents future publications, but does not affect content already available to the public.

“An order for interim injunction is granted to stay the defendants (Alex and Rozina Mwakideu) from any further publication of the complained video on any social media platform pending the hearing and determination of the application,” ruled Magistrate Nzyoki.

Lawyer Ochiel Dudley, representing the Mwakideu siblings, assured the court that his clients would fully comply with the ruling. Burale is seeking Ksh20 million in damages from the siblings, alleging defamation over the remarks made in the interview.
