Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has taken the opportunity to remind President William Ruto regarding several critical, unmet pledges that are essential for the welfare of the county’s residents.
The governor’s remarks comes as his Excellency tours the Lower Eastern region, highlighting the importance of collaboration between the county government and the national government, in line with the Constitution of Kenya of 2010 and the Inter-Governmental Relations Act of 2012.
Governor Wavinya has extended a warm welcome to President Ruto, expressing gratitude for his presence in the region.
She emphasized the county government’s dedication to fostering intergovernmental relations to improve the lives of the people of Machakos.
However, she has stressed the need for the national government to honor its commitments, particularly regarding funding and infrastructure development projects that have remained unfulfilled.
Among the unmet pledges highlighted by the governor was a KSh. 250 million allocation for the construction of the Mavoko Level 4 Hospital.
Additionally, Wavinya called for KSh. 300 million to support the Masinga Water Intake Project, which aims to improve water access in Masinga Constituency.
The governor has also brought attention to the issue of compensation for families affected by the demolitions of Portland land homes in the region. Equally important were calls for the review of high land values that impact residents of KCB land regularization in Mavoko.
Governor Wavinya also requested KSh. 200 million for the construction of Mavoko Stadium in Athi River Sub-County.
The governor reiterated previously made public commitments by the national government, including the completion of stalled road projects across various sub-counties, highlighting roads like the Oldonyo Sabuk Road in Matungulu, Kenol–Mitaboni–Kaani Road in Kathiani, and the Matuu–Ekalakala Road in Masinga.
She also urged the government to commence the construction of the Yatta Dam, along with essential water projects such as the cleaning of the Athi River, the tarmacking of crucial roads, and the issuance of title deeds to settlements in Athi River.
While she commended development projects initiated by the national government, such as the Kinanie–Joska Road and ESP markets, Governor Wavinya urged that future commitments to the people of Machakos be honored in a timely manner.
She expressed the urgency for the county to begin reaping the benefits of these initiatives without unnecessary delays.
