Machakos Town MP Caleb Mule Mutiso has called upon young people to actively engage with government-funded initiatives like the NYOTA program.
Speaking at Machakos Primary School, where 363 young individuals are currently receiving business management training through the NYOTA initiative, Mutiso emphasized the importance of utilizing these funds wisely.
“I urge the youth to be prudent and use the funds provided to start small businesses rather than diverting them for unnecessary luxury,” he urged.
The NYOTA program, which is part of the government’s broader strategy to support approximately 70,000 youths across electoral wards, aims to disburse Ksh 50,000.00 to each qualified individual.
This startup capital is intended to provide a financial foundation for entrepreneurial endeavors.
Mutiso expressed concern over those selected for training who have yet to participate, warning that their inaction could result in missed opportunities and lost financial resources.
“If you do not take this chance, you risk losing out on millions,” he said.
The youthful legislator addressed the behavior of some youths regarding social media and electronic gadgets.
He discouraged the misuse of these platforms for incitement or abuse, stating, “Which company or organization will employ inciters or abusers?”
Chief Guest and Principal Secretary of the State Department for MSMEs, Susan Mang’eni, reinforced the program’s objectives by noting that the national government is not only providing funding but also essential training that aligns with job market demands.
She clarified that the NYOTA project is primarily a job creation initiative designed to foster skills and entrepreneurial abilities among the youth.
“You are the future industrialists who will help the country create employment, grow the economy, and end poverty,” she encouraged, speaking directly to the aspiring entrepreneurs in attendance.
Mang’eni further motivated the youth by explaining that participants with existing skills would be trained on various business competencies and awarded certificates, aiding their employability in the dynamic job market.
