Machakos County Government launches Athi River Digital Hub to enhance job opportunities

Machakos County Government in collaboration with BrighterMonday Kenya has inaugurated the Athi River Digital Hub.

This initiative is a critical component of the broader Gen-Kazi program, which endeavors to improve job placements and provide support for young job seekers, particularly those aged 18 to 35 looking for entry-level positions.

The Athi River Digital Hub is a pivotal establishment designed to serve as a central connection point for job seekers in the region.

By offering essential career guidance and facilitating direct engagement with potential employers, the hub aims to create a streamlined pathway for individuals entering the workforce.

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti said that embracing the digital economy goes beyond merely applying technology since it embodies a strategic necessity in securing the future of the community.

“It is about ensuring that our youth are digitally equipped, our local enterprises remain competitive, and that our county maintains a position of leadership in a constantly shifting global landscape,” she said.

Governor Wavinya highlighted an ambitious plan to replicate the successful hub model across all nine sub-counties in Machakos.

“This strategy aims to ensure that all residents can leverage the wealth of opportunities provided by this infrastructure.” She said.

The Governor said that her vision is about fostering an environment where innovation thrives, and the county emerges as a beacon of digital leadership within Kenya and the East African region.

“With this pivotal launch, Machakos takes a major, confident stride towards establishing itself as a digital leader within Kenya and across the East African region,” governor Wavinya said.

Penina Kimani, the Country Programme Lead at BrighterMonday Kenya said that their involvement will not only provide access to a diverse pool of pre-screened job seekers but will also ensure that employers benefit from streamlined hiring processes.

“BrighterMonday Kenya and the County Government of Machakos will facilitate linkages between women, youth, graduates, interns, blue-collar, and pink-collar workers with suitable roles across the County.” She said.

With this initiative, the Machakos County Government takes an essential step towards creating a sustainable and inclusive economic environment that paves the way for future generations.
