Governor urges Machakos residents to respect road reserves for sustainable development

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has expressed serious concerns regarding the pervasive encroachment on road reserves by residents in the area.

Speaking during inspection of the ongoing tarmacking of the Gossip-Mlolongo road, the governor said that encroachments severely hinder the county’s infrastructure development efforts.

“It is disappointing that there is massive encroachment on our roads in urban centres making it difficult for the county government to carry out road upgrades.” She said.

The road in question is set to extend towards the Mlolongo dispensary and Assisi Nursing Home which is set to improve accessibility for residents of nearby neighborhoods.

Governor Wavinya said that structures built on road reserves must be demolished either voluntarily by the owners or by government action.

“We cannot compromise on this issue. If people do not take the necessary steps to remove their structures we will have no choice but to intervene.” She said.

Governor Wavinya also encouraged residents to engage in business opportunities that could elevate their livelihoods.

Later in the day, the Governor participated in the official opening of the Mzee Peter Ndeti Pridelands cabral road.

This project was a collaborative effort between the county government and the Sabaki Residents Association showcasing the benefits of partnerships in achieving infrastructural advancements.
