Edwin Sifuna speaks out against impunity and dictatorship within ODM

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has emerged as a vocal critic of what he terms a culture of dictatorship and impunity within the party.

In a poignant tribute to the late Raila Odinga, who would have celebrated his 81st birthday on January 7, Sifuna emphasized the importance of adhering to the principles and ideals that Odinga stood for throughout his life.

He lamented the internal struggles that have seemingly strayed from Odinga’s vision and highlighted the urgency of addressing these issues before they diminish the party’s integrity and effectiveness.

“Under Odinga’s leadership, the fight for multiparty democracy flourished, offering a platform for free expression and political diversity.” Sifuna said.

However, he expressed concern that the death of Odinga in October last year has precipitated a regression in the democratic ideals that he championed.

“The emergence of a new bubble of impunity and a conspiracy of silence threatens the very fabric of multipartyism that Baba fought so hard to establish.” He said.

Sifuna did not shy away from calling out his fellow leaders, particularly those who were mentored by Odinga, urging them to embody the values that the ODM founder exemplified.

He challenged these leaders to rise above the current infighting, insisting that their loyalty should lie with the principles of justice and equality that Odinga ardently supported.

“We do not have the luxury of rest, nor do we possess any fear in pursuit of Raila’s ideals.” Sifuna affirmed, insisting that standing with the oppressed and upholding the Constitution must be paramount.

The comments come in light of a feud between Sifuna and Junet Mohamed, the Minority Leader of the National Assembly, which has highlighted the financial mismanagement allegations during the 2022 General Election.
