Machakos Governor calls for church involvement in combating youth drug abuse

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has urged churches to take a more active role in addressing the escalating issue of drug abuse among the youth.

Speaking during a church service at Blessed church in Machakos town, governor Wavinya said there was need for collective action, recognizing that the church can be a significant force in guiding troubled young people.

“The rising drug abuse problem poses a serious threat not just to the youth but to the entire community.” She said.

She added that, “We must lend our ears and hands to help these young souls find their way back.”

The governor, opened the doors of Machakos County to all churches, encouraging them to engage in various ministries and invest in the County.

She also highlighted some of the significant developments in Machakos County during her service in the last three years. 

“Over the last three years, I have initiated various projects aimed at improving the quality of life for residents of Machakos County. One of the most noteworthy advancements is the establishment of a Level 6 hospital, which is set to alleviate the burden of long-distance travel for medical care. This facility is expected to significantly cut costs and enhance access to healthcare for many families in the area.” She said.

The governor announced upgrade of Matuu hospital to a Level 5 hospital to ensure comprehensive healthcare services across different levels. 

“This structured healthcare system aims to streamline patient care, allowing for more efficient treatment while catering to the diverse needs of the Machakos population.” Said governor Wavinya.

The governor, recently launched over 13 tractors to improve road conditions within the county to ensure that roads are passable and motorable.

She also said that her leadership was guided by what she describes as the “holy spirit,” indicating her belief in a higher calling to serve her community faithfully and effectively.
