Residents of Yatta Constituency are experiencing a renewed sense of hope as Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti confirms her administration’s commitment to tackling the long-standing issue of water shortages affecting areas like Matuu Town.
Speaking during a burial ceremony on Friday, the governor shared the proactive measures being implemented, aimed at ensuring a reliable water supply for the community.
“We identified management of the water service providers as the problem.” said adding that, “With new leadership in place, residents can expect improved service delivery.”
The governor revealed that funds have been allocated for the cleaning of the Yatta Canal, an initiative not only that promises a solution to the immediate water crisis but also aligns with the her campaign commitments to enhance infrastructure through solarization of water projects.
She also announced plans to elevate Matuu Level 4 Hospital to a Level 5 facility.
She elaborated on how this critical infrastructure upgrade is designed to alleviate the burden on the Machakos Level 5 Hospital, thereby improving healthcare provision for the growing population in Yatta.
“This will greatly help in decongesting our Level 5 hospital and improving service delivery.” Governor Wavinya said.
The governor emphasized the importance of legislative support from the County Assembly in regard to operationalizing the Wikwatyo Fund, a county empowerment initiative aimed at supporting women and youth.
“Members of the County Assembly, please do not joke with money meant for the people.” She urged.
Accompanying the governor at the ceremony was Roads Executive Nathaniel Nganga who said that the county government is finalizing policies aimed at establishing the Yatta–Kithimani Municipality.
