Machakos County Woman Representative Joyce Kamene has distributed free sanitary towels to learners in a program aimed at promoting the health and education of school-going girls.
Speaking at Machakos Primary School, Kamene expressed her concern that Machakos was among the counties with alarming rates of early pregnancies, a situation she deemed disturbing and in need of urgent attention.
“By providing sanitary towels, I aim to remove one of the barriers that can interrupt a girl’s education and contribute to longer-term social risks because these are some of the tools they need to stay in school with dignity and confidence.” She said.
Kamene said that the funds secured for the initiative through the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) would extend benefits to the boy child while broadening the scope of gender equality in educational support.
She also called upon well-wishers and community members to assist in sustaining the initiative and ensuring that all learners have access to necessary hygiene products.
